Research data play a central role in every research project, including in the humanities and social sciences. Whether working in archives, conducting field research, or using databases – there are numerous challenges when dealing with data and materials. In this workshop, the members of the LeipzigLabs “Plants and Politics" will address this topic.

Research data play a central role in every research project. Whether working in archives, conducting field research, or using databases – there are numerous challenges when dealing with data and materials. The term research data management has been used now for a number of years to discuss and negotiate a great variety of topics. For example, very practical aspects such as useful file organisation and secure storage, but also complex ethical issues that come into play when working with data. And last but not least, against the background of increased transparency of research processes as well as more efficient handling of publicly financed research through data re-use, the archiving of research data is increasingly expected by funders and other institutions.

In this workshop, the members of the LeipzigLab “Plants and Politics”, which was established this year, will address these various topics. The working group explores the intricate relationship between plant cover and politics in desertification-affected areas. The goal of the workshop is to develop a plan for a collaborative and integrative use of research data within the project. The workshop will be led by João de Deus Vidal, Postdoc in der working group, und Eva Ommert, Research Data Manager at the Research Centre Global Dynamics at Leipzig University.
