Research data play a central role in every research project, including in the humanities and social sciences. Whether working in archives, conducting field research, or using databases – there are numerous challenges when dealing with data and materials. The term research data management has been used now for a number of years to discuss and negotiate a great variety of topics. For example, very practical aspects such as useful file organisation and secure storage, but also complex ethical issues that come into play when working with data. And last but not least, against the background of increased transparency of research processes as well as more efficient handling of publicly financed research through data re-use, the archiving of research data is increasingly expected by funders and other institutions.
In this workshop, the members of the Research Training Group “Belongings: Jewish Material Culture in Twentieth-Century Europe and Beyond”, which was established this year, will address these various topics. The international research training group is the first of its kind in Israel and Germany in the humanities and offers a comprehensive qualification programme for excellent international doctoral students. The workshop will be led by Eva Ommert, Research Data Manager at the Research Centre Global Dynamics at Leipzig University.
