Abstract
Afua Lamptey is one of two PhD Researchers on the DFG Emmy-Noether Junior Research Group 'African Regional Economic Communities (RECS) in Global Politics'. The group explores the agency and practices of RECs in shaping and implementing highly inter-related and securitized regional or global policy field. She studied International Affairs at the University of Ghana, Legon in Ghana. She has also worked at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Ghana.

Afua Lamptey's research expertise and publications are in the areas of African regional organisations RECs, armed violence reduction, border and maritime security and peacebuilding. She has been involved in capacity building, research and policy analysis on peace and security issues in Africa with a strong focus on West and Central Africa. She also has extensive experience in managing projects in West and Central Africa which are focused on strengthening the skills and capacities of a cross section of state and civil society actors in the competencies mentioned above.
