I hold a Master’s degrees in History from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. My Master thesis, “Islamic Pilgrimage Control in Colonial Nigeria, 1932-1955,” examined the mechanisms of colonial governance and their impact on religious mobility within the British Empire. My current research investigates how university education shaped and reshaped the expectations of Nigerian youth between 1970-2007 and how changing economic and political conditions influenced their chances of employment. The research traces the shift from post-war optimism to periods of economic crisis, reform, and globalisation. It also shows how education, state policy, and labour markets interacted to redefine opportunity, aspiration, mobility and the broader reconfiguration of work in Nigeria’s postcolonial development context.
